Qianjiaxing wen 千家姓文

Feb 13, 2013 © Ulrich Theobald

Qianjiaxing wen 千家姓文 "Text of the thousand family names" is an elementary textbook for primary education. It was compiled by the Qing-period 清 (1644-1911) scholar Cui Mian 崔冕 and imitates the model of the Baijiaxing 百家姓. The Qianjiaxing wen was compiled in 1663 and lists 1,006 family names (xing 姓), of which 34 are disyllabic (fuxing 復姓). The literary quality is not as high as that of Wang Yinglin's 王應麟 (1223-1296) Xingshi jijiupian 姓氏急就篇 from the Song period 宋 (960-1279).
