Baqi Manzhou shizu tongpu 八旗滿洲氏族通譜

The Four Categories of Literature
(Qinding) Baqi Manzhou shizu tongpu (欽定)八旗滿洲氏族通譜 "(Imperially endorsed) Comprehensive tables of the Manchu families of the Eight Banners" is a collection of biographies combined with a construed history of the origin and development of the Manchu people that founded the Qing dynasty 清 (1644-1911) . It was compiled in 1744 on imperial order of the Qianlong emperor 乾隆 (r. 1736-1795). The 80 juan "scrolls" long book discusses differences in original sources on the genealogy of the noble Manchu families and established official genealogic trees. The book also includes some families of Mongolian, Korean and Chinese (Nikan 尼堪) pedigree that had entered the Banner system in its early phase. The structure of the book is geared to an earlier biographic collection by Zhang Ding 章定, the Shizu yanxing leigao 名賢氏族言行類稿 from the Song period 宋 (960-1279). The text of the biographic collection is included in the imperial collectanea Siku quanshu 四庫全書.
