Guanzhong congshu 關中叢書

Guanzhong congshu 關中叢書 "Collectanea of the Capital Region" is a series of collectanea (congshu 叢書) compiled by Song Liankui 宋聯奎 (1870-1951), courtesy name Juwu 聚五 or Juwu 菊塢, style Jusou 菊叟, from Xi'an 西安, Shaanxi. The collection was compiled under the aegis of Shao Lizi 邵力子 (1882-1967), who was from 1935 to 1937 Chairman of the Provincial Government (zhengfu zhuxi 政府主席) of Shaanxi, and observed that there was not yet any collection of important writings of the Guanzhong region (the area "within the passes, around Xi'an", during the Han 漢 (206 BCE-220 CE) and Tang 唐 (618-907) periods the capital region of China).

The series consists of eight collections (ji 集) with a total amount of 54 books. It includes writings from the Han to the Qing periody 清 (1644-1911), all of them written by persons hailing from the region or having lived there for a lengthy period. The sources different in their appearance, and reach from manuscripts to circulating prints. If printed versions were available, Song carried out critical research to find out the best editions concerning textual quality, and even sometimes rectified errors. Each texts is accompanied by an afterword in which the process of selection and correction is explained. The series was published in several batches between 1934 and 1936 by the Shaanxi Tongzhiguan 陜西通志館.

The texts are arranged in chronological order. Quite a few book are geographical treatises, and of therefore of great importance for historical geography. Others range from historiographical writings to philosophical texts and literary writings.
