Buliyate 布里雅特, Buryat

The Buryats (Buliyate 布里雅特), also called Balahu 八剌忽, Buliyadang 不里牙愓, were a Mongolian-speaking people living in forested regions around Lake Baikal. They lived of pastoral nomadism as well as hunting. They neighbours were called Tuma 秃麻 and Huoli 火里. In 1207 (or 1218) the submitted under the Mongolian troops under Činggis Qaɣan's son Joci 术赤. During the Yuan period 元 (1279-1368) they delivered horses and tributes to the Mongolian court. They descendants still live today in the same region and under the same name. Part of the ancient Buryats lives in Inner Mongolia in the Banner Barɣu 巴爾虎旗 of the Kölön Buyir League 呼倫貝爾盟 (since 2001 a region).
