Zhao Yao 趙堯 was a high official of Emperor Gaozu 漢高祖 (r. 206-195 BCE) during the early years of the Former Han period 前漢 (206 BCE-8 CE). He served as a royal scribe (yushi 御史) when Emperor Gaozu was still King of Han.
Zhao Yao plotted against Censor-in-chief (yushi dafu 御史大夫) Zhou Chang 周昌, concurrently counsellor of the Prince of Zhao 趙, in order to replace him. He participated in Emperor Gaozu's campaign against the rebel Chen Xi 陳豨 and was therefore in 196 BCE given the title of Marquis of Jiangyi 江邑侯.
He was dismissed because of some offence in 187 and stripped of his rank as a Marquis.
