Baojingtang congshu 抱經堂叢書

Baojingtang congshu 抱經堂叢書 "Collectanea of the Hall of the Embracement of the Classics" is a series of collectanea (congshu 叢書) compiled by the Qing-period 清 (1644-1911) scholar Lu Wenchao 盧文弨 (1717-1795). It includes 21 books with a total length of 263 juan.

As a Confucian philosopher highly interested in philology, Lu Wenchao commented a lot of ancient writings and revised some older commentaries. He also undertook some research on book catalogues and revised the bibliographic treatises of some of the official dynastic histories. The results of his research are assembled in the book Qunshu shibu 群書拾補. The new commentaries that Lu Wenchao wrote are based on high quality editions of ancient books like some of the Confucian Classics (Shangshu 尚書, Yili 儀禮), or histories (Yizhoushu 逸周書) and philosophic treatises (Xunzi 荀子, Chunqiu fanlu 春秋繁露), but also writings of later date. His own writings are to be found in the book Baojingtang wenji 抱經堂文集.

Lu Wenchao's series is an important collection of corrections to commentaries of older date. His research was done with great care and is very reliable.

The Baojingtang congshu was printed by the compiler himself. In 1923 the Zhili Printing House 直隸書局 in Beijing published a facsimile of the first edition.
