Dingwei zalu 訂譌雜錄

Dingwei zalu 訂譌雜錄 "Miscellaneous records on rectifying mistakes" is a "brush-notes"-style book (biji 筆記) written during the Qing period 清 (1644-1911) by Hu Mingyu 胡鳴玉 (late 18th cent.), courtesy name Tingpei 廷佩, style Yin'ou 吟鷗, from Qingpu 青浦 (today part of Shanghai). He obtained a stipend as an erudite literatus (boxue hongci 博學鴻詞).

The Dingwei zalu, with a length of 10 juan, is a work focused on verifying phonetics and characters, primarily compiling views from various scholars while incorporating the author's interpretations. For example, in rhapsody Shennü fu 神女賦, the book examines the interchangeable use of the characters 玉 (jade) and 王 (king), providing a detailed analysis of their meanings. The expression "double carp" (shuang liyu 雙鯉魚) is misused in a passage from the Hanshu 漢書 (31 Chen Sheng zhuan 陳勝傳). The Songshu 宋書 (27-29 Furui zhi 符瑞志) mentions the idea of hiding letters inside a fish's belly. This phrase originally appeared in Cai Yong's 蔡邕 (132-192) song Yin ma Changchang ku xing 飲馬長城窟行 "Watering horses at the Great Wall breach". Hu Mingyu also cites an ancient poem saying, "A white silk letter like frost and snow, folded into a pair of carp" (chi su ru shuang xue, die cheng shuang liyu 尺素如霜雪，迭成雙鯉魚), proving that the phrase originates from Cai Yong. The work frequently references classical texts, cross-verifying them for accuracy.

It was first printed in 1813 and is included in the series Huhailou congshu 湖海樓叢書, Shenbaoguan congshgu 申報館叢書, Siku quanshu 四庫全書 and Congshu jicheng chubian 叢書集成初編.
