Jiaolang cuolu 蕉廊脞錄 "Miscellaneous jottings from the Banana Porch" is a "brush-notes"-style book (biji 筆記) was written during the late Qing period 清 (1644-1911) by Wu Qingdi 吳慶坻 (1848-1924), courtesy name Ziyou 子脩, Zixiu 子修 or Jingjiang 敬彊. He was a native of Qiantang 錢塘 (present-day Hangzhou 杭州, Zhejiang).
The work of 8 juan originated in Wu's associations with worthy scholar-officials of his day. Drawing on his experience of the world and its customs, he gathered old writings and set down miscellaneous notes as they came to him. These were subsequently classified, collated, and annotated by Liu Chengxuan 劉承軒.
The text covers the following categories: Court and state affairs (Guowen 國聞), local matters (Licheng 里乘), loyalty and righteousness (Zhongyi 忠義), classical texts and ordinary writings (Jingji 經籍), bronze and stone inscriptions (Jinshi 金石), calligraphy and painting (Shuhua 書畫), and admirable sayings (Jiayan 嘉言), with an appended section of miscellaneous records (Zaji 雜記). The work aims to discuss the shortcomings of the "six arts" (liuyi 六藝) and the "nine schools of thought" (jiuliu 九流), the principles governing fortune and misfortune, survival and ruin, and the proper methods of governing the state and bringing peace to the realm.
Editions include the series Qiushuzhai congshu 求恕齋叢書 published during the Republican period, the Jindai Zhongguo shiliao congkan 近代中國史料叢刊 edition, and a facsimile reprint published by the Zhonghua Shuju 中華書局 in 1990.
