Chengjinzhai jiwen lu 承晉齋積聞錄 "Records of accumulated experience from the Studio of Continued Inheritance" is a book on calligraphy written during the high Qing period 清 (1644-1911) by Liang Yan 梁巘 (1710-1785), courtesy name Wenshan 聞山 or 文山, style Songzhai 松齋, from Bozhou 亳州, Anhui. He was district magistrate of Badong 巴東, Hubei. Liang resided for some time in the Xunli Academy 循理書院 in Shouzhou 壽州 (today's Shouxian 壽縣, Anhui), where he studies ancient calligraphy works, with a focus on bronze and stele inscriptions. Unfortunately, not much of his writings has survived.
The book of 1 juan length was initially only existing in the shape of a manuscript. Pei Jingfu 裴景福 obtained it during his extensive travels and decided to polish and publish the text with the support of Jiang Zipan 蔣子攀.
The book is primarily structured in the style of recorded sayings and notes. The writing is meticulous, and its arguments are well-reasoned and refined. The title Jiwenlu 積聞錄 suggests that the book is a combination of Liang Yan's personal notes on calligraphy and transcriptions of his teachings by his students. Some inconsistencies and repetitions appear throughout the text, indicating that the book was compiled over a long period.
The Jiwenlu includes the essays Gujin fatie lun 古今法帖論 "On model calligraphies from past and present", Mingren huafa lun 名人畫法論 "On the painting methods of famous artists", Zishu lun ba 自書論跋 "On my own calligraphies, with a postscript", Zhibi lun 執筆論 "On holding the brush", Xueshu lun 學書論 "On learning calligraphy", Yanlun 硯論 "On inkstones", Yinzhang lun 印章論 "On seals", and Zalun 雜論 "Miscellaneous discussions".
Despite some minor flaws, readers can undoubtedly benefit from Liang Yan's artistic insights.
In 1914, the revised version of Pei Jingfu was published by the Provincial Printing Office of Anhui (Anhui Guanzhi Yinshu Guan 安徽官紙印書局). The Shanghai Shuhua Chubanshe 上海書畫出版社 published an edition with annotations by Hong Pimo 洪丕謨. This edition is based on a manuscript owned by Wang Chaolong 王朝隆 (studio name Heting 荷亭).
