Yangyu yueling 養餘月令 "Pastime gardening through the months" was written during the late Ming period 明 (1368-1644) by Dai Xi 戴羲, courtesy name Yuchang 馭長, style Laiyuan Guansou 瀨園灌叟. He once held the office of archivist of the Court of Imperial Entertainments (guanglusi dianbu 光祿寺典簿). The book was finished in 1640.
The book of 30 juan length is a monthly almanack compiled from the writings of previous scholars. Originally, the book only contained the monthly records, which were categorized into ten sections: weather observations (Cehou 測候), farming (Jingzuo 經作), planting techniques (Yizhong 藝種), cooking (Pengzhi 烹製), health maintenance (Tiaoshe 調攝), horticulture (Caibo 栽博), medicinal remedies (Yao'er 藥餌), harvesting (Shoucai 收採), animal husbandry (Chumu 畜牧), and taboos (Biji 避忌). Later, additional volumes (starting from juan 21) were added, incorporating new material on silkworms, fish, and bamboos. The book also includes classical records on peonies (mudan 牡丹), herbaceous peonies (shaoyao 芍藥), orchids, and chrysanthemums. Additionally, the compiler provides his own insights throughout the book under the headline "Laiyuan kaoding 瀨園考訂". The book features two prefaces written by the author in 1633 and 1640.
The Yangyu yueling was reprinted in 1731. A modern edition was published in 1956 by the Zhonghua Shuju 中華書局.
