Yishi 弈史 "A history of chess" was written during the Ming period 明 (1368-1644) scholar Wang Zhideng 王稚登 (1535-1614, correctly written 王穉登), who also wrote a book on painting, Wujun danqing zhi 吳郡丹青志. His short book on chess assembles sources to the history of chess-playing in China. it is written in a clear and refined way, and is enriched by a treatise on the topic in an appendix, in which Wang Zhideng criticizes the position of many authors who saw chess as a kind of skill for mantic purposes.

The Yishi is to be found in the series Xuehai leibian 學海類編.
