Daozang jinghua lu 道藏精華錄

Daozang jinghua lu 道藏精華錄 is a collection of Daoist writings compiled by Ding Fubao 丁福保 (1874-1952, Shouyizi 守一子), courtesy name Zhongyou 仲祐, style Chouyin Jushi 疇隱居士, from Changzhou 常州, Jiangsu. He was actually a Buddhist master, and also known as a translator, collector, and as a physician. His most important book is the dictionary Fojiao da cidian 佛學大辭典 (1922), which was practically a translation of Oda Tokunō's 織田德能 (1860-1911) Bukkyō daijiten 仏教大辞典 (1917).

Ding selected the most important and interesting writings of the Daoist Canon (Zhengtong) Daozang (正統)道藏 from the Ming period 明 (1368-1644), the series Daozang jiyao 道藏輯要, and books not included in this series, to put together a handy library of Daoist writings. The series includes 100 texts in ten collections with a total size of 148 juan.

Ding's collection includes scriptures and treatises, bibliographies, annotations and abstracts, biographies and formulas for longevity and health. He selected brief texts with no more than 10 juan length to give his readers at hand short texts introducing into the most important aspects of Daoism. He also added information at the end of some books.

Yet as a non-expert of Daoism, Ding Fubao did not hit the core of Daoist writings. Chen Yingning 陳攖寧 (1881-1969), for instance, explained that not each of the texts selected was really valuable or useful to understand the fundamental formulas of Daoist inner alchemy (danjue 丹訣).

The series was printed in Shanghai by the Yixue Shuju 醫學書局. It was reprinted in 1990 by the Zhejiang Guji Chubanshe 浙江古籍出版社 and in 2005 by the Beijing Tushuguan Chubanshe 北京圖書館出版社.
