Zhitianlu 芝田錄 "Records from the sesame field" is a collection of stories compiled during the Tang period 唐 (618-907) by Ding Yonghui 丁用晦. It is listed in the imperial bibliography Yiwen zhi 藝文志 in the official dynastic history Xintangshu 新唐書, but the name of the author is not mentioned, likewise in the bibliographical chapter in the Song-period 宋 (960-1279) encyclopaedia Wenxian tongkao 文獻通考.
Chao Gongwu's 晁公武 (1105-1180) bibliography Junzhai dushu zhi 郡齋讀書志 says that the title was derived from a sentence in Pan Yue's 潘岳 (247-300) rhapsody Xizheng fu 西征賦 from the Jin period 晉 (265-420).
The original text included 600 short stories from the Sui 隋 (581-618) and Tang periods, but the original book is now lost, except for some fragments quoted in other collections. The Zhitianlu is to be found in the series Leishuo 類說, Shuofu 說郛, Wuchao xiaoshuo 五朝小說, and Wuchao xiaoshuo daguan 五朝小說大觀. All these collections state that the author was a certain Ding Yonghui, about whom nothing is known.
