Sunchuozi 孫綽子 "Master Sun Chuo"

The Sunzi 孫子 "Master Sun", also called Sunchuozi 孫綽子 "Master Sun Chuo" in ordert o forestall confusion with the military treatise Sunzi bingfa 孫子兵法, is a Daoist writing compiled by the Jin period 晉 (265-420) scholar Sun Chuo 孫綽. The Sunzi is listed in early bibliographies as a Daoist treatise with a length of 12 juan "scrolls". The book went lost soon, but the Qing period 清 (1644-1911) scholar Ma Guohan 馬國翰 collected more than 20 surviving fragments. Huang Yizhou 黃以周 later revised these and added some fragments. He analysed these paragraphs and came to the conclusion that the book can not simply be identified as a Daoist writing because it includes some statements that might also be called Confucianist or those of the dialectic school (mingjia 名家). The fragment collection is to be found in Ma Guohan's reprint series Yuhan shanfang jiyi shu 玉函山房輯佚書.
