Jieyin biji 芥隱筆記 "Brush notes from the Studio of the Mustard's Shade" is a "brush-notes"-style book (biji 筆記) written during the Southern Song period 南宋 (1127-1279) by Gong Yizheng 龔頤正 (1140-1201), courtesy name Yangzheng 養正, original name Dunyi 惇頤 (changed the name to avoid the personal name of Emperor Guangzong 宋光宗, r. 1189-1194; see taboo names), Zhao Dun 趙惇. Gong hailed from Liyang 歷陽 in the prefecture of Hezhou 和州 (today's Hexian 和縣, Anhui) or probably Suichang 遂昌 in the prefecture of Chuzhou 處州 in today's Zhejiang province. He wrote the critical biography collection Yuanyou dangji liezhuan pushu 元祐黨籍列傳譜述 and participated in the compilation of the official annals Sichao guoshi 四朝國史. Gong was Assistant Director of the Palace Library (bishu cheng 秘書丞),and an examining editor of the Historiography Institute (guoshiguan jiantaoguan 國史院檢討官). He was widely known as an expert in all types and genres of literature.
His short book presents 135 chapters that critically evaluate statements in older texts. The compilers of the Siku quanshu 四庫全書 praised it as a valuable tool for the study of history, apart from several errors that might have been the products of later additions to Gong's original text.
The text can be found in the series Baichuan xuehai 百川學海, Gushi wenfang xiaoshuo 顧氏文房小說, Gezhi congshu 格致叢書, Jindai mishu 津逮秘書, Tang-Song congshu 唐宋叢書, Shuofu 說郛, Siku quanshu, Xuejin taoyuan 學津討原, Xu zhibuzuzhai congshu 續知不足齋叢書 and Congshu jicheng chubian 叢書集成初編.
